A Prize for Beauty

As 2011 drew to a close, Symrise received a Frost & Sullivan Award for its active ingredient, SymPeptide 226EL, recognizing the product’s eyelash-enhancing properties. The component was developed in 2009 by Symrise with the help of its partner, Therapeutic Peptides Inc (TPI) and has since shown proven efficacy in many cosmetic products. Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards reward companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry. The laureates come from a wide spectrum of industries, including financial management services, mobile communication, healthcare and personal care.

Symrise received the 2011 European Personal Care Product Differentiation Excellence Award, which, according to F&S, goes to the company that has demonstrated excellence in developing unique product features and functionality, achieving superior customization and in matching target market needs. Frost & Sullivan’s vice president of chemicals, Shomik Majumdar, explained: The use of SymPeptide 226EL helps to improve the appearance of naturally beautiful and plentiful eyelashes, making the product unique in the market. Clinical studies show that it improves appearance and volume within 2 weeks.” Research Analyst Dr Sujatha Vijayan continued: “SymPeptide 226EL is a lipo-oligopeptide, having 5 amino acids and a fatty acid. Its lipophilic nature makes it highly effective, enabling it to easily reach the target site, and the ingredient does not cause skin irritation or discoloration.”

Several studies prove that SymPeptide 226EL helps to provide luscious eyelashes with visible results in 2 weeks at the recommended use level. For instance, when using SymPeptide 226EL once daily, an improvement in volume and fullness was substantiated by up to 48% in just 2 weeks. The peptide in SymPeptide 226EL supports the production of keratin, the major component found in hair and eyelashes. Keratin has been found to fight signs of ageing, in addition to acting as an eyelash appearance enhancer. It is colourless-to-beige, odourless and easy to apply. “For us, the Product Differentiation Excellence Award is a prestigious recognition of Symrise’s accomplishments in the personal care market. It acknowledges our efforts to deliver excellence and best practice in the personal care market,” outlines Dr Gabriele Vielhaber, global head of Cosmetic Ingredients and Innovation Life Essentials at Symrise. “My special thanks go to my colleagues and our partners who have helped in the development and marketing of SymPeptide 226EL.”
