Not Just a Flutter
Length, thickness and volume are highly sought after features of eyelashes that traditional cosmetics, such as mascara, attempt to create the appearance of. Sederma’s new ingredient, Widelash, however, is designed to supplement such applications, providing an eyelash conditioner that delivers additional, long-term benefits to enhance and preserve their appearance and, according to the company, intensify the natural beauty of the eyes. Based on a vitaminated matrikine complex, Widelash accentuates the natural appearance of the eyelashes and enhances their anchorage to reduce eyelash loss.
By fortifying the hair fibre and bulb, the rate of cell multiplication at the level of the root sheath is increased, improving keratinocyte synthesis and thus hair fibre production. In vitro and in vivo tests demonstrate an increase in eyelash length — up to 121% in 14 days in the former and up to 43% in 30 days in the latter — and thickness. In vitro tests have also shown its capacity to encourage the synthesis of adhesion molecules laminin-5 and collagen IV in the dermis/epithelium sheath junction, providing optimal hair anchorage. These effects were also illustrated in vivo by a significant decrease of eyelash loss after make up removal during 30 days of a daily mascara application with 2% Widelash.
